Brette Popper

For nearly two decades, Brette Popper has taught yoga, meditation and breath-awareness techniques in New York City where she leads group classes and sees students individually. A voracious student herself, she regularly studies Sanskrit, Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Therapy, Tibetan Buddhism and Tai Chi to supplement her teaching and practice.
Until 2017 she was the Founder of YogaCity NYC, the city’s premier website for yoga news and information. In that role, she published, wrote and acted as moderator for public panel discussions on topics of interest to the yoga community. These discussions tackled issues like the role of the yoga guru, diversity in class settings and how yoga can be pursued “off the mat.”
Brette received both her 200 and subsequent 300-hour certification from Alison West’s Yoga Union. She has taken over 300 hours Yoga Therapy training with the Mohan Family as part of their Svastha Yoga program and has been a student in Nikki Costello’s Enrichment Practice for many years. She also has over 250 hours of training in Embodied Anatomy with Amy Matthews and certifications to teach Pre-Natal Yoga, Yoga for Backcare, Yoga for Osteoporosis and Yoga and the Alexander Technique. She currently studies asana and anatomy with Iyengar teacher Genny Kapuler and assists her on Wednesday nights.
